Invitation to the 4th International Symposium on Navigated Brain Stimulation in Neurosurgery

09 October 2012

Second invitation with program

Dear colleagues,

It is our pleasure to invite you to the 4th International Symposium on Navigated Brain Stimulation in Neurosurgery, to be held in Berlin. As many of us have now learnt, Navigated Brain Stimulation (NBS) is a reliable and accurate method for analysis of cortical function. Like direct electrical cortical stimulation, NBS maps the cortex by stimulation, rather than indirect imaging, yet NBS has the profound advantage of being noninvasive.

There is now a robust body of evidence showing the value of NBS in presurgical mapping of the motor cortex. Extending the use of NBS to speech mapping is of considerable interest right now and the first clinical results are promising. The recent FDA clearance of the NexSpeech® module for the NBS System offers further evidence of its efficacy. Further, use of NBS data offers improved motor fiber tracking from DTI, as well as potentially allowing mapping of the speech-related tracts. Recent case reports suggest that brain plasticity in tumor, especially in LGGs, may not be such rare events and we hope to hear more feedback on the use of NBS mapping for enabling multi-stage surgery at the Symposium. Additionally, we expect to hear the most recent development in the use of NBS in the therapy-related applications of pain control and stroke rehabilitation.

Please also note that this year there will be multiple prizes for the best poster and runner-up posters, so please submit your poster early to nbsberlin2012@gmail.com.

Please see the enclosed announcement for registration details.

We again welcome you to Berlin!
